I’m from what you call home of the Mayans

To the ruins that were yet built

Destroyed the windfall of hate

To those who would rather live somewhere else

This place I hardly ever visit

The hot days as well as the cold

 

Waking to the smell of

Sunshine yellow scrambled eggs

Refried red beans

With tortillas that we are most known for

And a steaming cup of coffee

The senses that will always be engraved in my mind

 

Bringing back the old memories

That of my childhood

A scary world to which I did not know about

Siblings that I’m pretty sure I also didn’t know of

But getting to know more about  my heritage

 

Dogs seen on every corner

Whether it be someone’s or no one’s

Houses built on houses

Doors as big as the palace

With gardens of rainbows

Ranging from the tallest of the tallest

To the small cute ones you see kids picking

Getting yelled at by their mothers

To things they shouldn’t be touching

In Spanish

ESTA ES MI CASA

And forever it will always be

In mind, body, and soul
