“Where Creativity Blooms”

Kaitlin Dooley

Rhythm & Blues

Music speaks to the soul

Brings people together

Jerry Wexler coined it to be

Called it Rhythm and Blues

The type of music that speaks to me

No longer a racial slur

"race music" they called it

Combination of different styles

Formulated into one

Too sick to not listen

Artists using their voice to bring people together

Something that lasts forever

From Erykah Badu

Having to call Tyrone

To Michael Jackson

Screaming for Dirty Diana

The moonwalk that broke the world

Beyonce and her Bee Hive running the world with her girls

Jay-z and his empire state of mind

Aretha Franklin saying a prayer for you

Alicia Keys falling in love and being that girl on fire

Drake knowing how life is good

While Cardi B walks in her bloody shoes

Mary J Blige having no more drama

Because Usher's DJ had us fallin' in love

But TLC didn't want no scrubs

To welcome to Pop Smoke's party

Music I grew up on

Old school

New school

From a young age I knew my style was different

Unique in my eyes

Calms me down and brings me peace

Helps me forget about the troubles in my life

Puts me at ease

And makes me who I am today
